LAURENT Gallery has become one of St Kilda’s leading art hubs attracting artists and enthusiasts from all over Melbourne to participate in the various activities and events that it hosts.
Situated at 1 Vale Street, St Kilda it is a New York Warehouse style conversion with a large open plan main gallery overlooked by a U shaped mezzanine, nesting 8 art studios.
Titane Laurent, gallery founder, supported by City of Port Phillip has teamed up with Jonathon Miller in raising the bar by hosting inclusive and entertaining monthly Art Soirees inviting anyone and everyone to join in.
I went along to their second Art Soiree and was hit by the impressive work and diverse community participation. There was about 40 people of all ages supporting and judging their artist friends who bravely displayed their art pieces, all bidding for the “People’s Choice Award”.
After much scrutiny three out of about 20 exhibited pieces were selected by the people for final judgement. Flowing beverages along with cheese and fruit platters kept the energy and suspense high and the competition was in full flight.
The grand finale for the evening saw the three finalists awarded an abundance of fantastic prizes sponsored by MONT MARTE.
LAURENT Gallery is spacious, warm and dramatic and is available to hire for all kinds of events.
To view the work of the artists-in-residence you will, however, need an appointment or attend an event.
