The Gadflys at Memo Music Hall 2024

I’ve known St Kilda based singer, songwriter and musician Mick Moriarty, one of the founding members of The Gadflys along with his brother Phil, since his daughter was very young, she is now 21.

This iconic band was formed in the 1980’s and continues to play all over the UK, Europe and Australia but rarely in my home town of Melbourne. Not in the last number of years anyway.

I was very excited to hear they had booked a gig at St Kilda’s Memo Music Hall on the 30 November and that I was invited to come along and snap some pics.

This rendition of the band included seven musos, all of whom have played together on stage and recorded multiple albums over decades.

Gemma Clare and Kathryn Brownhill

Their instruments included bongo drum, harmonica, flute, whistle, clarinet, trumpet, drums, double bass, cello, violin, lead, rhythm and bass guitars and five vocalists who delivered two one hour sets of original songs.

Peter Kelly

This gig was next level.

Exceptional songs, exceptional music and a beautifully synchronised flawless performance.
